Born in Horsforth, West Yorkshire in 1960, Peter Winterbottom MBE earned 58 caps for England, achieving two Grand Slam victories in 1991 and 1993 and playing in the 1991 World Cup final.
Peter toured New Zealand with the British & Irish Lions in both 1983 and 1993, participating in 19 games, including seven Test matches. Remarkably, Peter Winterbottom MBE was the second English player to reach 50 international caps, following Rory Underwood.
Educated at Rossall School and Seale Hayne Agricultural College, Peter initially combined his England Rugby career with farming before the demands of international rugby took him around the world.
Peter’s career included playing provincial rugby for Hawke’s Bay in New Zealand and Transvaal in South Africa. Domestically, he started at Headingley before joining Harlequins, where he captained the team to three cup finals.
After retiring from rugby, Peter transitioned to a successful 24-year career in the City as a Eurobond and derivatives broker. In recognition of his contributions to rugby, he was awarded an MBE in 1994.
An engaging after-dinner speaker, Peter Winterbottom MBE captivates audiences with hilarious and insightful anecdotes from his extensive experiences on and off the rugby field.
