Simon Thomas is currently the presenter of Sky Sports’ iconic football results show, Soccer Saturday.

A highly respected broadcaster with 25 years of experience, Simon Thomas began his career on Blue Peter, becoming the 27th presenter of the legendary BBC children’s program, where he worked alongside Katy Hill, Konnie Huq, Matt Baker, and Liz Barker.

After six years with Blue Peter, Simon transitioned into sports broadcasting, joining Sky Sports as a prominent face of Sky Sports News. He regularly co-presented the Afternoon Report with Georgie Thompson and Kirsty Gallacher, and also led coverage of major events such as the World Cup Report from Cape Town, the 2010 Ryder Cup, and the 2010-11 Ashes Series in Australia. Additionally, Simon played a key role in the presenting team for the 2012 London Olympics and hosted Sky’s live launch of the FA’s 150th Anniversary in early 2013.

Simon’s adaptability as a presenter saw him become the inaugural host of Sky Sports’ Cricket AM, where he led the Saturday morning summer magazine show for four years alongside Anita Rani and Sarah-Jane Mee. He later became the lead presenter for Sky Sports’ Football League coverage, before moving on to present Premier League broadcasts starting with the 2016-17 season.

In 2017, Simon’s life was profoundly changed when his first wife, Gemma, tragically passed away just three days after being diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia. Four months later, Simon made the difficult decision to leave Sky Sports to focus on raising his son, Ethan. Since then, he has become the President of Blood Cancer UK, written a book titled Love Interrupted about his journey through grief, and shared his experiences through his blog, A Grief Shared, which has reached over a million readers.

Simon also hosted a podcast series with Global, Life Interrupted, for three seasons, where he interviewed guests such as Fearne Cotton, Andrea Corr, and Billy Billingham, discussing how they overcame life’s toughest challenges.

After taking some time away from broadcasting, Simon returned in 2019, presenting a series of films for ITV’s This Morning and several for the BBC’s Morning Live and Sunday Morning Live. In 2020, he re-entered sports broadcasting as a lead presenter for Amazon Prime Video’s Premier League coverage and has also been a regular panelist on Channel 5’s The Jeremy Vine Show.

In addition to his work on-screen, Simon has hosted numerous live events, including the morning warm-up and post-show at the London 2012 Olympic Stadium in front of 80,000 people, as well as the ECB Twenty20 Cup and end-of-season dinners for clubs like Chelsea, Norwich City, and Wolverhampton Wanderers. He has also hosted the Football League Awards three times.

Simon is a sought-after speaker on mental health, grief, and sobriety, delivering talks to organizations including Asda, Aviva, the Home Office, and Linklaters.
