Micke Hermansson began his teaching career 30 years ago in Sweden. In 2010 he experienced a very challenging class. Being disheartened and frustrated he decided to try some new ideas to get the students involved and wanting to learn. He called the concept ‘Grej of the day – GOTD (with ‘Grej’ meaning ‘one thing’ in Swedish).

GOTD involves three basic steps;

  • A Clue. Always given the day before the microlesson. This make the students curious and ready to learn.
  • A Microlesson: The next day, you give a microlesson (eight to ten minutes) where you will present the facts in a storytelling manner. Included are also a WOW-ending!
  • A Retelling Part:  The final step is for the students to go home and retell parts of the GOTD to their parents.
