Marc Woods is one of Great Britainโs most accomplished Paralympians, having competed in an extraordinary five Paralympic Games and winning a total of 12 medals, including four golds.
His journey to the top of elite sport is anything but conventional, making his story both powerful and deeply relatable.
At the age of 17, Marc was diagnosed with cancer, resulting in the amputation of his leg. What followed was a remarkable demonstration of resilience and determination. Returning to the pool during treatment, he not only recovered but exceeded expectations, breaking personal bests and earning selection for Team GB just 18 months after completing chemotherapy.
Across a 17 year career, Marc represented Great Britain on the world stage at Paralympic, World and European level, competing in Seoul, Barcelona, Atlanta, Sydney and Athens. Alongside his Paralympic success, he amassed an additional 21 medals at major championships.
Since retiring from competitive swimming, Marc has continued to push his limits, taking on extreme challenges such as climbing Cotopaxi and trekking across Peru and Ecuador. He is also the author of Personal Best, where he shares the lessons that have shaped his mindset and approach to life.
