Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson is acknowledged as one of the most gifted and courageous sportswomen of her generation.

Competing in five Paralympic Games, she won 11 gold medals and claimed victory in the London Wheelchair Marathon on six occasions, establishing herself as one of the most successful and recognisable athletes in British sporting history.

Now retired from elite sport, Tanni has built an influential career beyond competition. She was a consultant to London 2012, a Laureus Sport for Good Trustee, a Transport for London board member and an International Inspiration Ambassador for UNICEF. In 2005 she was appointed Dame Tanni Grey-Thompson DBE for services to sport, and in 2010 she was elevated to the House of Lords as a peopleโ€™s peer.

Sitting on the crossbenches, she has specialist interests in sport, disability, health and youth development, bringing authority, insight and practical experience to national debate and policy making.

Tanni represents a rare crossover between high performance sport and the demanding worlds of business and politics. She understands the parallels between these environments and shares powerful lessons around perseverance, teamwork, adapting to change, leadership under pressure and breaking down barriers.

A compelling and authentic communicator, she motivates and inspires audiences ranging from senior leadership teams to large-scale conferences.

In everything she does, Tanniโ€™s lively personality and down-to-earth humour shine through. She offers unique behind-the-scenes stories from the Olympics alongside candid insights into the workings of the House of Lords, delivering talks that are both engaging and thought provoking.

What people say

Tanni presented to a room of some 200 Sainsburyโ€™s colleagues. All our colleagues found her stories of her sports career both fascinating and inspiring. Her desire to succeed was obvious and certainly something to think about! Tanni took questions from the audience. Her natural, relaxed style made colleagues feel able to ask many questions across a raft of topics, not least her role on Transport for London.

Your presentation on โ€œExtraordinary Performanceโ€ was not only powerful but enabled us to close our conference on a high note- inspiring many of the delegates in the room. It also served as a great reminder of the outstanding success of the 2012 London Olympic and Paralympic Games.
