Chris Moon is one of the most fortunate people alive—and one of the most inspiring. A former British Army officer, Chris has faced life-threatening challenges that most could scarcely imagine, surviving both a kidnapping by Khmer Rouge guerrillas in Cambodia and a devastating landmine explosion in Africa that resulted in the loss of his lower arm and leg. Yet, through sheer determination, he has turned these adversities into opportunities to push boundaries and inspire others.

During his time with the Army, Chris gained three years of operational experience, including elite leadership training at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. He left the military to work for a humanitarian charity, clearing landmines in Asia and Africa. It was during this work that he was taken prisoner by the Khmer Rouge, one of history’s most brutal terror groups. Chris negotiated his release—and that of two colleagues—from the brink of execution.

In 1995, his life changed forever when he was blown up in a supposedly safe area of a minefield in East Africa. Despite losing his arm and leg, Chris treated himself on-site and survived a 14-hour journey to hospital. Doctors in South Africa were astounded by his resilience, stating they’d never seen anyone survive with such severe injuries. Within just two months, Chris was out of hospital, and less than a year later, he completed the London Marathon, raising significant funds for disabled people in developing countries.

Chris became the world’s first amputee ultra-distance runner, teaching himself to run with his prosthetics. He has since completed some of the world’s toughest endurance races, including the Marathon des Sables (a grueling 137-mile race across the Sahara), the Badwater Death Valley Ultra (135 miles in temperatures exceeding 50°C), and the Devon Coast to Coast (117 miles). Most recently, Chris shaved 12 hours off his personal best at Badwater, finishing in an incredible 41 hours and 51 minutes.

Chris’s accomplishments extend beyond the physical. He holds a Master’s degree in Security Management, with a focus on human behaviour and management theory, and has read extensively on achievement and human potential. Combining academic insights with personal experiences, he brings a unique perspective to his talks. Chris has spent more than 10 years delivering keynote speeches, interactive workshops, and personal and team development programmes, consistently earning top feedback scores.

Chris speaks with passion, humour, and authenticity on topics such as resilience, overcoming challenges, leadership, mindset, and behavioural change. His presentations are infused with lessons from his own life, illustrating how to adapt to change, push past perceived limitations, and achieve extraordinary results in the face of adversity.

His book, One Step Beyond, chronicles his journey from the depths of despair to the pinnacle of achievement, including carrying the Olympic torch for the Nagano Winter Olympics in 1998. Whether addressing corporate teams or motivating individuals, Chris embodies the principles of perseverance, positivity, and achieving beyond what seems possible.

Chris Moon’s story is more than one of survival—it’s a testament to the power of grit, determination, and the human spirit. When it comes to challenging the concept of limitation, Chris doesn’t just talk the talk; he walks—and runs—the talk.
