Baroness Tina Stowell is a former Leader of the House of Lords and Cabinet Minister whose distinguished career has encompassed senior roles in Downing Street, Washington, the BBC and Parliament.
She is renowned for ‘getting things done’ and surpassing expectations when faced with ‘impossible’ challenges: from leading equal marriage legislation through the House of Lords, to preventing foreign governments from owning or controlling British news organisations, and to turning around a decline in public trust of the charity sector when she was Chair of the Charity Commission.
Yet she grew up in a working-class family living in a small industrial town, and left school at sixteen determined to make her way as a secretary.
