A seasoned polar explorer and adventurer, Mark Wood operates in some of the most extreme environments on the planet.

His expeditions include reaching the Magnetic North Pole, the Geomagnetic North Pole twice, and completing solo journeys to both the Geographic North and South Poles. He has been featured in major BBC and Channel 5 documentaries and has spent years training and leading individuals in the world’s harshest conditions.

Mark is an outstanding team and leadership developer, drawing on his extensive experience in the military and fire service. His unique perspective on leadership and team progression is shaped by his time navigating Everest and hazardous situations in remote locations. He has led novices through dangerous Arctic storms on numerous expeditions, using those experiences to highlight powerful parallels with leadership in today’s corporate world.

An exceptional storyteller and professional speaker, Mark brings clarity to how strong leadership can enhance business performance, focus, and direction. His engaging style and honest accounts of extraordinary adventures in the planet’s most unforgiving landscapes create a deep connection with his audience. Through his hard-won lessons and vast experience, Mark inspires organisations to understand the power of leadership, personal growth, and the importance of recognising both human potential and our relationship with the natural world.

His recent and upcoming expeditions include:

  • The Arctic – leading a life-changing trip for children with physical disabilities and learning needs with a local school.
  • Alaska – living and working with the Inuits, and witnessing firsthand the impact of climate change
  • South Pole crossing – an environmental research expedition to collate samples and document observations of the ice

What people say

Mark Wood is a natural story teller, as well as being an explorer, who has true stories of adventure, bravery and global journeys. He captivated both the children and the adults at the children’s university graduation ceremony, everyone felt honoured to be sitting in the same room with him. I think we were all hoping that some of his qualities might rub off on us! Intelligent, thoughtful and topical issues were raised together with his sense of humour, leaving us thoroughly entertained and educated. The children were given the opportunity to ask Mark Wood questions at the end and were queuing up to be photographed with him. Just one of the many comments we received was that the evening ‘was phenomenal’. I recommend everyone to keep an eye on him to see what he is up to next!
