For nearly a decade, Marc Priestly worked as a race mechanic and member of the pitstop crew for the prestigious McLaren Racing.

Marc Priestley is McLaren’s former Number One Mechanic. Drawing on his experiences with the World Championship-winning pit crew, he provides valuable insights for businesses on the power of teamwork, strategic planning and communication.

Before his F1 career, Marc began as a mechanic for British Formula 3. Working from the Silverstone track, he represented Speedsport F3 and honed his skills there. Just two years after his start in motorsports, Priestly moved to Orbit Motorsport in 1999, and here was where he was noticed by F1 McLaren Racing.

Marc explains the teamwork, strategic planning, communication and leadership required to perform under pressure and elevate the team to victory. He shows how the team culture – making sure each member understood and took responsibility for their exact role in preparing for the race and executing like clockwork on the day – was critical to their success.

After almost a decade at McLaren, in 2009 Marc left his position with McLaren and was hired by Formula Two as a pivotal role in the setting up of FIA Formula Two Championship, Marc took on the responsibility of the race team manager, his position involved managing forty mechanics and crew.

Marc has worked with an impressive list of drivers including many World Champions such as Mika Hakkinen, Fernando Alonso, Kimi Raikkonen, Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton.

Marc is now the host of Discovery Channel’s Driving Wild; Gears, Grease and Glory and co-host of The F1 Report on Sky Sports F1 HD.
