Madeleine Black is an exceptional speaker whose message of courage, choice and transformation has inspired audiences across the globe.

A powerful storyteller and two-time TEDx speaker, Madeleine shares her personal journey of overcoming trauma to demonstrate the strength of the human spirit and the power of mindset.

At the age of 13, Madeleine survived a traumatic event that changed her life, and she speaks shares how she chose forgiveness after being gang-raped at 13. Since then has dedicated her life to inspiring others to reclaim their voice, tap into their resilience, and live with purpose.

Her keynotes explore themes of adversity, mental strength, forgiveness and hope, with a focus on what’s possible when we shift our mindset and choose how we respond to life’s most difficult moments. Delivered with authenticity and compassion, her talks are as thought-provoking as they are uplifting.

Madeleine’s approach is both gentle and powerful. Whether she’s addressing senior leaders in a global organisation, speaking to young adults in a sixth form, or supporting frontline professionals in the public or charity sector, her story sparks deep reflection and lasting impact.

She is the author of the acclaimed memoir Unbroken, and a qualified psychotherapist, bringing both personal insight and professional understanding to her sessions. Her work has been featured on national television, radio, podcasts and in print media, and she is a Patron and Ambassador for several advocacy organisations.

“I remember wishing they would kill me to make it all end.”

It takes courage to speak the unspeakable.

But for many years, Madeleine Black felt too afraid and too ashamed to utter a word of what happened to her.

Violently attacked at the age of thirteen, her story is one of pain – but also of healing, resilience and forgiveness.

Madeleine uses her personal and moving story to shatter the shame, stigma and silence surrounding sexual violence and to show us that it’s not the events in our life that define us, but by how we choose to reclaim our lives after them.

How we become unbroken.

Through her words, Madeleine hopes to help others find the courage to speak up, whatever their story in order to live their life fully.

What people say

Madeleine’s work is invaluable to a world where women are finally finding their voice.

The sharing of her story publicly on The Forgiveness Project’s website in September 2014, opened many doors for Madeleine in ways she never imagined, and the invitations started to pour in.  Many women and men got in contact and explained how reading her story gave them strength, hope, and a different perspective of what’s possible in their lives.  She has taken part in both TV and radio interviews and has been invited to share her story of being gang raped as a teenager at conferences, book events, schools etc.  She recognises that she was a victim of a crime that left her silent for many years but has now found her voice and intends to use it.  Not just for her, but for so many who can’t find theirs yet.
