Lord Sebastian Coe is renowned for his career as a world record-breaking middle-distance runner and four-time Olympic medalist for Great Britain.
Following retirement, Lord Sebastian Coe led London’s successful Olympic bid and chaired the London Organising Committee for the Olympic Games. In 2012, he received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Awards and was named one of The Sunday Times’ 100 Makers of the 21st Century.
After securing the Olympic bid in 2005, London became the first city to host the Games three times. For his central role, Lord Coe was knighted in 2005. He delivered memorable speeches at the London 2012 Olympics’ opening and closing ceremonies and involved the Queen in the famous “Happy and Glorious” short film. He was made a Member of the Order of the Companions of Honour for his contributions.
Lord Coe continues to serve sport as the president of World Athletics, a member of the International Olympic Committee, and the first chairman of the FIFA Ethics Committee. He was inducted into the IAAF Hall of Fame and serves as a global ambassador for Nike. He was also featured in the docu-film “Sebastian Coe: Born To Run.” Beyond athletics, he was made a Life Peer in the House of Lords in 2000 and served as a Conservative MP.
