Lis Cashin is a best-selling author, TEDx speaker, mental health consultant and trainer.

Her passion to end the stigma surrounding mental health derives from her personal experience. Lis describes her family life as dysfunctional and focused on sports as a coping mechanism.ย  A sports day that started out just like any other ended in a tragedy that changed her life. At just 13 years old Lis experienced a horrific traumatic experience when she took part in javelin throwing which resulted in the death of her friend. Despite responsibility for this incident falling on the school, a lack of support saw Lis struggle with feelings of guilt and shame leaving her with undiagnosed PTSD for over 30 years. She turned to alcohol and drugs to cope with these feelings and suffered in silence at work. A second life changing incident occurred when she was involved in a traffic accident that left her with severe injuries. The trauma that Lis experienced pushed her to travel to India to find herself.ย  She spent the next few months working on various self-discovery techniques and opened herself up to new experiences that helped shape her into the woman she is today.

Lis is passionate about challenging the stigma that surroundsย  mental health.ย  She supports organisations and schools that work to create a culture that isย  safe, emotionally engaging and honest. Through her own transformational personal journey she has learned to lead from within and understands the impact we can have when we learn to speak our truth and lead with compassion and purpose.

What people say

I was really enlightened at your talk last night. Iโ€™m a very black and white person, and have to work hard to see the grey, and you personi๏ฌed why itโ€™s really important to look for the grey, or the things that are usually unsaid. You were a glowing testimony that everyone can make a choice, and when they do, theyโ€™re a powerful force to be reckoned with

Lis came into Just Eat on World Mental Health Day with a focus on breaking down the barriers around talking about mental health. The sessions were awesome and extremely well received in the business. Sheโ€™s down to earth and a really great speaker โ€“ weโ€™d have her back in a heartbeat.
