Keith Antoine is a performance coach, speaker and former GB National Sprints Coach, who spent a decade working across both the Olympic and Paralympic pathways.

But sport is his way in, not his subject. His understanding of performance comes from much more than elite sport. Before and alongside his coaching career, Keith worked as a project manager within a multinational voice and data communications business, giving him first-hand experience of organisational life, teams and the challenges of performing in the workplace.

That combination of elite sport and corporate experience is at the heart of his work. Keith explores the balance between the person and the performance, helping individuals and organisations understand what enables people to perform at their best, particularly when expectations are high and the pressure is on.

His track record includes coaching athletes to World, Olympic and Paralympic competition, personally coaching more than 20 international athletes, and working with European and World Junior medallists. Within organisations, he has coached and delivered development interventions from operational teams through to Board level, as well as designing and delivering a proprietary conversation-skills programme. He has also been a professional keynote speaker for 30 years.

Keith’s approach is not about telling audiences what to think. It is about making them think. Through targeted, thought-provoking challenge, he encourages people to question accepted thinking, look at issues from their own perspective and turn insight into practical action.

His sessions are highly interactive, personal and deliberately funny. Rather than simply delivering an engaging hour, Keith creates experiences that encourage audiences to do the thinking for themselves, so the ideas are owned rather than simply heard.

What sets his approach apart is the discipline behind it. Every session is designed to move people from provoked thought to owned action, giving them practical ideas and actions they can take away and apply.

Most underperforming leaders don’t lack talent or technical knowledge. That’s often what got them there. To continue to elevate their and others’ performance requires additional skills and behaviours. Systems, strategy and process all matter, however people are central.

In that regard, leaders really have two jobs; deliver performance through their people and develop their people. Over-emphasis on the first and neglect of the second doesn’t end well. Everyone claims to take development seriously, however that seldom proves to be the case.

This session will explore;

  • The simplest way to ensure development stays on your daily agenda.
  • The importance of people really owning their performance, and the skill leaders need to make that happen.
  • Why the culture is built on the leader’s conversations.
  • Why successful leaders set clear expectations – both ways – to ensure the right level of challenge and support.

The fundamentals for successful collaboration are not complicated, however in today’s complex and rapidly changing workplaces, they end up hiding in plain sight. Using a simple to understand sporting analogy that readily translates into every organisational setting, Keith brings the key fundamentals into sharp focus in a highly interactive session with sufficient process to illuminate your existing friction points and generate immediately applicable and measurable actions.

Elements include;

  • Why effective teams will routinely outperform talented individuals, and how to quickly get on the right side of that equation.
  • How to avoid being a team that talks a good game yet fails to do the necessary practice, by identifying what really needs to be practiced.
  • Why teams that have a common purpose can still fracture, but not when they are also clear about their reason.

In any performance context, talent will only get you so far. Your mindset and level of resilience will determine whether you fulfil your potential. Mindset and resilience are connected. Mindset determines Beliefs determine Resilience. Developing both while navigating daily pressures is a challenge.

This session simplifies straightforward strategies used at Olympic level. Strategies that you can implement immediately to start making a noticeable difference.

These include;

  • Knowing yourself and correctly identifying your own success.
  • Separating your self from your performance.
  • Really accepting that setbacks are part of the process.
  • How to view, and what to do with nerves and pressure.
  • Identifying your own non-negotiables, and deciding whether you’re really willing to do them?
