Dee Caffari has made history not once, but three times, as a pioneering yachtswoman.

She became the first woman to sail solo, non-stop around the world the wrong way—against prevailing winds and currents—in 2006. To date, she has circumnavigated the globe five times, pushing boundaries in one of the world’s toughest endurance sports.

Originally a secondary school physical education teacher, Dee’s career took a dramatic turn when she was inspired by the 2000/01 Global Challenge fleet returning home. Determined to be part of this world, she trained relentlessly and became the only female skipper in the 2004/05 edition of the race. Just four months after completing this challenge, she embarked on her historic solo voyage, cementing her name in the record books.

Beyond her solo feats, Dee has also taken on elite team racing. In 2014/15, she competed in the Volvo Ocean Race as part of Team SCA—the first all-female crew in over a decade to take on the legendary round-the-world race. In 2016, she joined the Sport Relief Hell on High Seas challenge, leading celebrity novice sailors on a treacherous journey that raised over £1 million for charity.

A passionate advocate for marine conservation and safety, Dee sits on the RNLI Operations Committee and is a patron for GAFIRS, Sail4Cancer, and St Mary’s Junior Sailing Club.

Now an acclaimed international speaker, Dee delivers engaging and motivational keynote presentations, entertaining after-dinner talks, and expertly hosts corporate events. Drawing from her experiences of resilience, teamwork, and high performance in extreme environments, she brings powerful insights with humour and authenticity.

Her autobiography, Against the Flow, has inspired audiences worldwide and is available in multiple languages.
