Carly Tait (PLY) is a retired Paralympian and global Diversity & Inclusion consultant working with organisations to develop their D&I strategies and action plans.

Hi I am Carly Tait, I am 37 and live in Manchester, UK with my partner and our little boy!

I am a retired Paralympian, having competed at Rio 2016 and then at the 2017 World Para-Athletics Championships in London. My journey into sport is far from being typical! Before sport I was surrounded by prejudice, discrimination and a lack of self-belief, but a trip to London changed all of this in 2012. I went from being a 27 year old party-goer and smoker, to ranking number 5 in the world just 5 years later. For the first time in my life I felt I had achieved something that I previously thought was impossible.

Shortly after my athletics career in 2017 I decided to go back in to my long standing career in Marketing, however after falling pregnant quickly after, I went on maternity leave and life changed a lot!

Whilst on maternity I found it difficult to leave the world of sport behind and on reflection I felt that this was because of how it made me feel. I felt a sense of purpose, belonging and achievement that I had found hard to replicate in every day life, especially in the workplace.

Book Carly Tait PLY

I began to understand the true role of diversity and inclusion and how my own lived experiences had intersected to create many barriers, which I had been battling for years. This realisation helped me go on to become a D&I consultant, working with brands and businesses across the globe supporting on D&I strategy, development and coaching and I am now the D&I Lead for a FTSE 100 company.

My passion is talking to people. I am a frequent speaker, panellist, podcast guest and use my platform to create positive change for disabled people, which helps me to continue the legacy of the Paralympic movement.

My latest experience called ‘The Power of Inclusion.’ explores the social construct of disability and its role in creating systemic oppression; perpetuated by the inauthenticity and inaccuracy of media representation.

I discuss how inclusion can create opportunities for yourself, your colleagues, customers and communities by giving you an understanding of:

– Lived experience
– Ableism
– Prejudice and bias
– Media representation

I can deliver bespoke sessions depending on your group size and availability so please get in touch if you want to discuss your requirements.
