Jacqui Barrett is a passionate and dynamic voice in the world of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI), known for delivering powerful, thought-provoking sessions that challenge, inspire and equip audiences at every level.

With 15 years at the BBC in television commissioning, scheduling and strategy, Jacqui managed multi-million-pound budgets and led content decisions that shaped the national conversation. Her work ensured that UK programming was representative and reflective of the nation’s diversity.

Her professional foundation was matched by personal challenges: navigating IVF and fertility treatments, becoming a mum whilst caring for her mum with Young Onset Alzheimer’s. These life experiences sharpened her understanding of dignity, care and the systems that include (or exclude) those without a voice. That same fire led her to launch #TabletsWithLove in March 2020, a campaign that distributed 500+ devices across 25 NHS Trusts so patients could video-call loved ones during the COVID-19 lockdown.

Jacqui went on to co-found Wider Thinking, an award-winning EDI consultancy that makes inclusion content accessible, impactful and often entertaining. Her work spans e-learning, workshops, strategy and bespoke films, including content created in partnership with the Television Access Project to champion Deaf, Disabled and Neurodivergent talent in broadcasting.

She regularly facilitates professional discussions with senior leadership teams and all-staff across sectors. Her sessions offer clarity, challenge and compassion, creating brave spaces where people can safely explore difficult topics and leave with real tools for action.

What people say

Thank you again for your time today, but also for all the time you took to understand our particular situation and all the activities we already have up and running. The event was well attended with floods of positive comments already coming through. I genuinely would love to hear more about Pay Equity, being from the People Team, it’s of real interest. Unfortunately, I understand that the recording of today’s event has failed, which is a shame because I was going to watch that part back. If you have any recommended sources on the topic, I’d be glad to take a look – otherwise I’ll be at the whim of a google search on the subject! Thanks again.

Impressive course with a great range of content. Our teams quickly gained a much greater understanding of the nuances of topics such as allyship, intersectionality, neurodiversity, code switching, blindspots, and how this all affects our workplace culture as well as helping our business prosper even more. Thought-provoking and helped open up ED&I conversations and questions. This shared knowledge created even more empathy and collaboration around equity. WE ALSO DID THEIR IN-PERSON WORKSHOP RUN BY JACQUI, AND ONE OUR TEAM SAID IT WAS BY FAR THE BEST WORKSHOP THEY’D EVER DONE! Highly recommend Wider Thinking.
