Kate Mikhail is a sleep expert, integrative psychotherapist and author of Teach Yourself to Sleep: An ex-insomniac’s guide. She is a subject matter expert on Peak Performance & Sleep Leadership, Employee Wellness & Productivity and Health & Wellbeing.

After years of being awake half the night with chronic insomnia, at the mercy of recurring burn-out days, while working for national newspapers, and with three young children to look after (including twins), Kate knows how difficult it can be to survive on too little sleep.

More importantly, she also knows the extraordinary potential we can all unleash by upgrading the quality of our sleep, having delved into the biology and science of sleep to fix her debilitating insomnia, while researching Teach Yourself to Sleep – ‘Her brilliant new book that delivers accessible science to help you take back control’ Psychologies.

She shares with delegates why sleep is so fundamental to our health, happiness, wellbeing and performance, and why we need to look at sleep from a unique and completely different perspective, to start each day strong, resilient and firing on all cylinders.

Passionate about helping others revamp their quality of life by improving their sleep, Kate is a Guardian Masterclass tutor (How to sleep: transform your whole-body health), and a sleep leadership advocate, focussed on how leaders can help their teams strengthen their core wellbeing and professional game via their sleep health.

An inspirational look at the relationship between sleep, life, health, work and productivity, using the highly-acclaimed Teach Yourself to Sleep method. This talk is brought to life by Kate’s experience of how much harder life can be when you’re getting by on too little sleep, or poor quality sleep, and how she transformed her sleep and quality of life thanks to researching her book and becoming a sleep expert.

Is your sleep holding you back from reaching your full potential, enjoying your life, or getting the most out of your day? What impact does your sleep really have on your workplace performance, charisma, inner strength and the decisions you make? Understand the number 1 pillar of health, with simple, practical strategies and empowering evidenced-based insight.

What we’ll cover:

  • Why quality sleep is fundamental to personal health, quality of life, wellbeing and professional success.
  • The self-sabotaging fall-out of inadequate sleep and how to avoid selling yourself short.
  • Dynamic leaders & teams: how to inspire, engage and motivate, so all can flourish.
  • Why we are facing a 21st-century epidemic of sleeplessness that’s getting worse.
  • Work & sleep science: why you need both NREM deep sleep and REM dream sleep for emotional equilibrium, peak productivity, brain power and whole-body health.
  • Sleep disrupters, and the three sleep shapers that enable a happier, healthier life with less stress and greater job fulfilment.

Too often we’re disconnected from our circadian selves at the expense of our health, wellbeing, sleep quality, productivity and success. But what does this mean? What can you do? And how can your circadian health supercharge your personal life and your workday too?

Kate knows first-hand the fall-out of not working with your natural circadian rhythms, and the exhausting and undermining sleep she lived with as a result. Her extensive research, however, allowed her to tune into her circadian self, to strengthen her sleep-wake pattern and with it her energy, focus and quality of life.

Gain self-awareness and natural core strength, with easy, practical tools to take control and thrive – using the ground-breaking and widely-respected Teach Yourself to Sleep method.

What we’ll cover:

  • The circadian you, and how this shapes your mind, body, sleep, personality and performance.
  • Circadian misalignment and the negative fall-out both personally and professionally.
  • Why so many people are out of sync with their natural physiology, now more than ever.
  • How working with or against your chronotype impacts your day and your ability to maximise your potential.
  • Chrononutrition – the ideal time to eat certain foods and why it matters, in terms of sleep, moods, performance, weight…
  • Why it pays to tune into your circadian self for peak health, energy, productivity and job/life satisfaction.

Stress disrupts sleep and poor quality sleep weakens our stress resilience – risking overwhelm, low performance, disillusion and burn-out.

Sleep quality impacts mood, mindset and mental health. And a lack of quality sleep, night after night, can get your negative attention bias firing and put your mental health at risk – not least because there’s a bidirectional link between inadequate sleep and anxiety & depression.

Improve the quality of your sleep, however, and everything changes for the better.

So how to turn this around, to become more stress resilient and create a sustainable and rewarding work-life-sleep balance, where you can excel?

By understanding how to intercept stress cycles and how to improve the quality of your sleep, you can start making small but impactful changes to help you wake up recharged, stress resilient and empowered to reach your professional and personal goals.

In this talk we will explore:

  • How the quality of our sleep impacts the body & brain and our emotional reaction to the challenges that come our way.
  • How daily stressors spike cortisol levels, disrupt sleep & undermine stress resilience and mental health.
  • The power of evidenced-based stress busters that can be dropped into your day, to improve sleep health & resilience.
  • What shapes your sleep and how to boost sleep quality, and with it your physical & mental health, to be a stress-resilient you.
