Peter Winterbottom  Inspirational Speaker

Peter Winterbottom is a former England rugby player and city bond and derivatives broker. He gained the first of his 58 caps for England against Australia in 1982 aged 21 whilst playing for the Headingley Club in Leeds and went on to play in two World Cups in 1987/1991. Narrowly losing the 1991 final to Australia.

Peter Winterbottom  toured with the Lions in 1983 and 1993, both times to New Zealand playing in a total of 7 test matches. He retired from rugby in 1993 already having moved to London in 1988 to forge a career in the city and play his rugby for the Harlequins Club who he captained for three seasons taking the team to three cup finals and winning the Middlesex sevens a record six times in a row.

Peter Winterbottom has a vast experience in rugby having played globally which has included a season playing for Hawkes Bay in New Zealand in the Ranfurley Shield and also in South Africa for Transvaal in the Currie Cup.

Peter worked in the city for 24 years broking corporate bonds and derivatives and described the business as the most cut throat environment imaginable. 

Peter Winterbottom is a keen cyclist having recently completed John O'Groats to Lands End and London to Gibraltar, raising thousands for charities including Walking with the Wounded, Help for Heroes, Prostate Cancer UK and Shooting Chase Stars Hospice. You can often see him hauling his large frame up the Surrey Hills training for his gruelling events.

Peter Winterbottom  has vast experience of what it takes to build and motivate a successful team both in sport and in business. Combining years at the coal face of both sport and business. 

Peter Winterbottom  is also a very amusing after dinner speaker recounting many anecdotes of rugby experiences both on and off the pitch

Peter Winterbottom is a former England rugby player and city bond and derivatives broker. Narrowly losing the 1991 final to Australia. He went on to win 2 Grand Slams with England in 1991/1992.

Peter Winterbottom toured with the Lions in 1983 and 1993, both times to New Zealand playing in a total of 7 test matches playing in the famous record victory over New Zealand in Wellington in the 2nd test of the 1993 tour.  He retired from rugby in 1993 already having moved to London in 1988 to forge a career in the city and play his rugby for the Harlequins Club who he captained for three seasons taking the team to three cup finals and winning the Middlesex sevens a record six times in a row.

He was educated at Rossall School and Seale-Hayne Agricultural College, starting his early working life as a farmer. Although Peter was never selected to play rugby for England Schools his rugby career took off when playing for Headingley and Yorkshire culminating in selection for the full England team captained by the legendary Bill Beaumont.

Peter Winterbottom  played all his rugby in the amateur era making many sacrifices to fullfill his dream of playing and winning for England. There were many setbacks with injuries and poor management hampering success of the team during the mid 1980’s.
