Roger Uttley OBE

Roger is a former International Rugby player who was first capped for England in 1973 and went on to gain a total of 23 caps. Roger completed 4 seasons as coach of the England side which won the 5 Nations Championship for the first time in 10 years and got to the World Cup Final to compete against Australia in 1991. Roger was awarded the O.B.E. for services to sport in 1991 a Fellow of the Physical Education Association in 1999 and a Privileged Member of the Rugby Football Union in 2000. Roger is an experienced and much sought after motivational speaker with a range of high profile clients in his portfolio.

biography

Currently Roger is an associate of Ashridge Management College working on their “Sport into Business Initiative”. He has been very successful in creating and managing successful team environments and mentoring those individuals in executive positions within them. He is a highly regarded after dinner and motivational speaker.

Roger combined this with a rugby career playing for England through the 70’s captaining the side during the 1977 season and was a member of the Grand Slam side of 1980. He played in all 4 test Matches in the British Lions legendary unbeaten Tour of South Africa in 1974. After retiring from playing he then became coach to the England team that reached the 1991 World Cup Final and was awarded the OBE later that year. He became Manager of the team in the late 1990’s, a unique achievement at that time

Roger Uttley has spent all of his working life teaching physical education in both the state and maintained sectors of High school education and has recently retired after 26 Years as Director of Physical Education at Harrow School.
