biography

Mark Jones would happily admit that Awards Ceremonies, Business Conferences and Sportsmen’s events and Dinners are now his specialist subjects; he gets to meet his heroes, gets paid, and, most importantly, he gets fed. Mark has hosted thousands of events over the years, working with many sporting legends; David Beckham, Ryan Giggs OBE, Andrew “Freddie” Flintoff MBE, Frank Bruno MBE, Gianfranco Zola, Wayne Rooney, Sir Ian Botham, and Sir Alex Ferguson.

He even hosted a very successful “sportsmen’s-dinners-for-the-troops” tour of war-torn Kosovo with the late Alan Ball, MBE and Jack Charlton, OBE.

More recently, he’s hosted the prestigious 2009 Local Government GO Awards at The Plaisterers’ Hall in London EC1, the 2008 Aston Villa End of Season Awards, the 2008 Royal Bank of Scotland Awards dinner, the 2009 International IT “Monkey Awards” at London’s Tower Bridge Hilton, plus the 2009 Manchester United Player of the Year Awards with ITV’s Jim Rosenthal.

Mark hosted the sell-out “Legends match” (Man Utd vs Man City) at the 21,000 capacity MEN Arena with Sir Alex and Kevin Keegan. This was a charity event for Dependents of the New York Fire-fighters. (Mark was only a few blocks away from the World Trade Center Towers on the morning of 9/11 and he reported “live” from the scene for UK radio for several days after).

He’s been the regular host for Masters’ Football since 2001 (including their annual International Tournaments held in Dubai UAE., Macau, China and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia), also hosting the Sponsors’ black tie dinners following the tournaments. The games are shown live on Sky Sports.
He regularly hosts Manchester United’s Player-of-the-Year awards (and recently Aston Villa’s too) plus innumerable prestigious awards ceremonies, corporate events, black-tie charity fundraisers, sporting dinners and golf days, etc., throughout the UK (and beyond). He’s even hosted CRUFTS at the NEC!

He’s covered Manchester United and Liverpool’s American pre-season Tours for UK radio. Mark Jones is also one of the most experienced radio presenters currently on-air in the UK.

Starting in radio as a pimply youth in his hometown at BBC Radio Manchester, he graduated to Liverpool’s Radio City, lost his pimples and started to win awards, including the prestigious Sony nomination for his hosting of Michael Jackson’s Aintree Racecourse concert, (the “biggest solo concert in history”) entertaining the crowd of over 125,000. After several successful years at North West regional station, Century FM, Mark returned to Radio City’s Magic 1548 in Liverpool, and often hosts a daily UK-networked show on the Magic Network; plus he’s regularly heard on Manchester’s Magic 1152 (formerly Piccadilly Radio).

Not limiting his talents to radio, Mark has written and published several books, including the “Mark Jones’ Birthday Book”; the best-seller that became the definitive UK Radio reference book.
