biography

Charlotte’s England cricketing career began at the early age of 16, when she became the youngest ever player to play for England. She was anything but out of her depth, in 1997 she smashed 12 centuries, including one from 118 balls. In the same year, she went on to score a then record score of 173 ‘not out’ in a World Cup match.

In 2001 Charlotte’s career was almost ended suddenly by a cruciate ligament injury sustained whilst playing hockey but, after missing a season, she came back even more strongly than before.

She took over the role of Captain when Clare Connor was side-lined due to injury and then was appointed to the role on a full-time capacity in March 2006.

The team’s winning streak began in 2007, with England retaining the Ashes in Australia, beating New Zealand away and India at home before going on to win the World Cup in Australia, losing only one game, and the T20 World Cup in 2009.

Charlotte played her 100th ODI on tour in Australia and also won ICC Women’s Player of the Year 2008. She plays her county cricket for Kent.

Other Achievements

Charlotte will be awarded an MBE for her services to cricket on 24th November. She also played county tennis at U11’S and was a very keen Hockey player until her cricket took over.

The Future

Charlotte main focus is to continue to captain the England Women’s side and keep on winning. She is a highly motivated and inspirational woman and she will continue to be involved with helping to grow and develop the women’s game, inspiring more young girls to play the sport.
